Kindergarten News- Feb.21th-24th

 

This week’s homework packet is due on Friday, February 24th.  Please make sure you are taking the time to read with/to your child daily!

This Thursday is our field trip to Pump It Up!!   Please remember that your child will need a bag lunch from home this day and they have to wear socks in order to play!!  We are asking that children still wear a navy blue uniform shirt, but may wear bottoms (shoes and pants) of their choice.  Make sure they are wearing something comfortable to jump and play in!!  If you are volunteering, please be here by 9:15.  We will be back to the school by noon. 

Recently a neighboring school had to close.  LoveWorks has opened our doors to any of those families that needed a new school.  We have gotten 3 new friends in our classroom and may be getting more!  Please be patient with us and administration as things have been very busy!  We have gained 30 students school-wide and are expecting about 20 more within the next week!   

We are in need whiteboard markers and green folders!! If you are able and willing to donate any we would greatly appreciate it!

In Reading we have been discussing environmental print.  We have brainstormed a list of words that we can read just from seeing them around so much (such as McDonalds, cheetos, Cub Foods, etc.).   With this we have made a “Wacky Word Wall” in our classroom.  We have asked the students to bring in wrappers from items or anything they can find that have words they have seen around and can read and we will hang them up on our “Wacky Word Wall”.     

We have noticed several kids with ties on their shoes!  LWA uniform guidelines state that Kindergarteners through 2nd grade need to have buckle, Velcro, slip-ons etc.  No laces and no winter boots!!!

The Week at a Glance:

  • Reading- Discuss characters and setting in stories; predicting what a story will be about before reading.  Explore the use of ending punctuation and capitalization at the beginning of a sentence. Blending sounds to create short a & i words.   New Sight Words-the, they, that, then, this, them.    
  • Math- Addition.
  • Science-  Solids, liquids, and gases.
  • Social Studies- Maps
