WELCOME

The policies and procedures contained in this Handbook are the result of a concerted effort on the part of the Board and the Administration of LoveWorks Academy. This information has been carefully prepared and presented so that it will be of great value in helping you adjust to our school and become an integral part of it.

The ultimate purpose of a Visual & Performing Arts Education is to help each student develop their whole being and become an effective citizen in our changing world.

The educational philosophy of LoveWorks Academy is based on the proverbial mandate to “train up a child in the way he should go…” We believe that parents have the responsibility to teach their children and to guide them in their preparation for professional careers.

One of the goals of LoveWorks is to aid parents in reinforcing the values of the school and home. LoveWorks, based on its understanding of a changing world, strives to provide the highest quality education. Its graduates are prepared with the knowledge and skills required to be productive members of society. We also strive to teach our students to have an appreciation for the gifts they have as individuals. This perspective comes through the integration of curriculum, performing arts, school and parental involvement.

Intent to Return Forms will be issued to currently enrolled students the 1st week of February of each school year. Families of currently enrolled students will have a month to respond to Intent to Return Forms before we move on to our wait listed students. Open enrollment for the upcoming school year will begin the first school week in April of each school year.

  8. By October 15 parents must find new placement for their child.
  9. Winter: Success of children admitted early through this procedure will be assessed and modified as need.

*All students attending K-4 or K-5 will be instructed for readiness to enter the 1st grade the following school year.

ADVERTISEMENTS

All advertisements (signs, handouts, intercom announcements directed to students or staff members during school hours) must be approved through the Director’s office. No handbills will be posted without having been approved by the Director or Office Manager.

ASSEMBLIES

Our students are fortunate in having an opportunity periodically to attend assemblies. These assemblies, whether entertaining or educational, are a privilege and should be treated as such. The conduct of the audience helps to establish the reputation of our school. Students are reminded that the preservation of that reputation is the responsibility of each individual.

ATTENDANCE

General Procedure

EXCUSED ABSENCES

  1. Absences are excused if a student is ill, has a medical appointment, for religious observance or if there is a family emergency.
  2. When a student is injured and that injury requires them to miss Physical Education, the student must bring a note from a doctor or medical practitioner or parent.
  3. If a student is removed from class during the school day, the missed class work must be finished by the following morning. Should the work not be finished the next morning, he or she will accumulate incomplete/late assignments. When a student has accumulated three (3) incomplete/late assignments, he or she will be assigned a tutorial detention.
  4. Planned family vacations/trips will be officially recorded as excused absences as long as parents notify the office or your student(s) teacher(s) ahead of time.
  5. Should a student acquire a significant number of unexcused absences, the following procedures will be followed:
    1. Five (5) unexcused absences: A letter of notification will be sent to the parents.
    2. Ten (10) unexcused absences: A conference with parents will be scheduled
    3. Fifteen (15) unexcused absences: The student is in danger of expulsion or grade/class failure. An additional parental conference will be scheduled with specific consequences presented.

BAN ON WATER GUNS & BALLOONS

Due to potential danger of injury to staff or students, water guns and water balloons are not permitted on the LoveWorks Academy property. Students in possession of either of the above will be suspended from school.

BOOK BAGS

Bags of any kind must be stored in lockers during school hours. No book bags may be taken into the cafeteria. Students who carry bags to class are subject to be disciplined by teachers and/or administration.

BOOKS AND EQUIPMENT

Students are to use reasonable care when handling schoolbooks and equipment. Parents are held responsible for equipment broken, damaged or misplaced/lost by their child and must pay for a replacement or the cost of repair. All students must have materials for class. Failure to do so may result in withholding student records.

BUILDING POLICIES

The building is open to students 30 minutes prior to the official start of the school day. Students MUST vacate the school building 30 minutes after the official end of the school day. One dollar ($1) per minute will be charged per child after the allotted parent pick up time. Students that leave the premises at their will, by state law, are not liable to the school. However, if LoveWorks staff is aware of such action we will assist as much as possible to resolve the matter. For liability reasons, parents MUST come in to pick up children in parent pickup. Parents MUST notify the front office in the event that anyone other than themselves pickup a student. Identification is required.

CALENDAR

Please refer to your school calendar and Wednesday notes for all upcoming holidays, breaks, conferences, release days, etc.

CHANGE OF INFORMATION

Change of address or telephone numbers during the school year must be reported immediately to the Administration Office.

CHECKS/CASH

A cash payment, when requested should be sent to school in an envelope, labeled with the student’s name, grade, amount enclosed, and the purpose for the money. LWA has a no check policy. You may receive a receipt in the front office upon request at the time of payment.

CLOTHING, NAME TAGS, LOST-AND-FOUND

All students should safeguard their books, articles of clothing, etc., at all times. All removable items of clothing, notebooks, etc., should be clearly labeled with the student’s name. Name tags are very helpful in returning clothes. Boxes in the storage room contain “lost items.” If your student has lost clothing, please have the student look in the boxes. Unidentified items are taken to a local charity once a month.

CLUBS

The staff of LoveWorks strives to meet the needs of all students by agreeing to sponsor clubs and organizations in an attempt to provide opportunities for study, competition, and community service for our students.

CONFERENCES

All teachers are available for conferences. Parents are encouraged to discuss with the teacher any questions or problems which might affect the child’s performance. The teacher may sometimes request a conference with the parents. When this is necessary, a parent should attend.

Conferences may be scheduled with teachers. One day’s advance request is required. Because of the need to protect the instructional time for all students, conferences should not be requested when a teacher is assigned to a class. So that adequate preparation can be made for the conference, parents may not have a conference with a teacher immediately before school unless an appointment has been made.

If a parent desires to view permanent records or current test scores during the conference, such request must be made when scheduling the conference. A parent should report to the Main Office at the scheduled time of the conference to sign-in and obtain a visitor’s pass. The teacher will be paged. When leaving, the parent should sign-out in the office and return the visitor’s pass to the receptionist.

CONFIDENTIALITY

The administrative office regards any information shared by students and/or their parents to be governed by the laws of confidentiality. Confidential information may not be revealed by the administration team to others without the permission of those persons involved unless the information is potentially harmful to the student or to others.

Classroom Policy

See you child(ren)’s classroom teacher for their policies.

Opportunities to Succeed

  • I will keep no teacher from teaching
  • I will keep no other student from learning
  • I will learn to obey the first time
  • I will listen and use an indoor voice
  • I will raise my hand to ask permission
  • I will respect others and their belongings

LoveWorks defines bullying as “those repeated negative behaviors either physical or mental that target a specific victim. Behaviors may include, but may not be limited to threats, verbal or written abuse, physical abuse, harassment, and ethnic or gender slurs, targeting a specific victim.” These actions are violations of LoveWorks’ policy; we do not tolerate these actions. Students who commit these activities are subject to disciplinary action. Students who believe that they are the target of bullying should talk to an administrator, teacher, parent, or other trusted person to report these activities. Any student or teacher observing bullying activity should report it to an administrator.

Cheating Policy

The administration and faculty of LoveWorks encourage integrity. Cheating is unethical behavior and is considered a serious offense. Cheating is taking credit for work a student has not done and includes the use or attempted us of unauthorized aids on tests, quizzes, homework, class work, reports, papers, or projects. Plagiarizing is cheating.

First Offense

The student will be spoken to privately about the offense and an automatic zero will be given. The parents will be called and informed of the incident and the consequences. The student will be held accountable to achieve a passing grade and makeup the failed work without credit.

Second Offense

The student will be spoken to privately about the offense and an automatic zero will be given. The parents will be called and an appointment will be made with the Head of School. A proper course of action shall be determined as a result of this meeting.

Continuing Offenses

If this pattern continues beyond the second offense and everything has been done to help the student, the administration will call for a conference with the parents to decide if the student should remain at LoveWorks Academy.

FIGHTING

LoveWorks has a zero tolerance for fighting. Punishment and criminal charges will be administered if necessary.

Due to the potential of harm or injury and allergies, we ask that all members of the LoveWorks community keep their pets at home. Dogs are not permitted on school property.

DISCIPLINE INFORMATION

Any acts defacing school property, trespassing on school property, entering the building without permission, creating a dangerous situation for students, staff, or self, etc., may be subject to violation. In certain cases, an alternative school setting may be recommended. And there is a possibility of losing the privilege to participate in the annual graduation ceremony, or showcases.

DISCIPLINE POLICY

Discipline of children is a very effective tool when used properly. Parents are ultimately responsible for the discipline of their children and must be involved in the disciplinary process. Our intent is to form a partnership with parents to train their child. The school holds each student and his or her family in high regard and strives to keep matters of discipline as private as each situation allows. However, there may come a time when the good of the school and the student body outweigh all efforts to bring change in individuals who are not in agreement with the goals of LoveWorks. These acts may result in expulsion of the individual. Our aim is to provide a solid and effective education in an atmosphere of discipline that will build up, encourage, and train students in concepts and behaviors that are appropriate in all walks of life.

Teachers have formulated classroom rules with the assistance and approval of the Head of School. These rules are posted and copies are sent to the parents. Disruptive or disrespectful behavior by students or parents will result in appropriate disciplinary consequences.

The following offenses are considered significant in nature and will be dealt with expeditiously:

  1. Defiance or willful disobedience toward those in authority.
  2. Mistreatment of a fellow student or students in a manner clearly degrading, intimidating, threatening, harassing or violent by whatever means.
  3. Cheating, Lying, Stealing.

Students are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful manner. School rules apply on all field trips. If a student’s behavior is not appropriate for a field trip they will be asked to stay home or left at the school with a staff member.

A field trip permission slip is included within the initial application of admittance.

Generally, field trips are for students enrolled in LoveWorks. Parent chaperones must focus their attention on the LoveWorks students they are watching while on the field trip; therefore, prior arrangements for additional children to go along on a field trip must be talked over with the homeroom teacher.

All students are required to come back to LoveWorks unless previous arrangements have been made with the teacher. There will be no treats unless previously arranged with the teacher in charge.

1 = Whisper

2 = Partner Voice

3 = Classroom Voice

4 = Outdoor Voice

HEALTH AND MEDICATION

LoveWorks Academy adopted the State of Minnesota’s guidelines of “No Shots – No School Policy.” The state of Minnesota mandates that every student be current with immunizations before starting school in the fall. A medical report, including the student’s immunization records must be filled out by the student’s physician and submitted to the school office no later than the 15th of October each year. Students will not be permitted in school after this date without current immunizations on file. Medical records must be transferred from the previous school for all new students attending LoveWorks.

When a student is in need of medical attention the office will call the parent or guardian. The parent will be made aware of the health issues. The office and parent will discuss the need of picking the child up from school at that time.

Whenever possible, the parent or guardian should make arrangements so that it is not necessary for the school personnel to administer medication to a student. We realize however, there are some cases when a student’s health could be compromised by not receiving medication during school hours.

If your child needs medication for treatment of a chronic disease or emergency treatment such as asthma inhalers or bee sting antidote, the doctor and the parent must fill out a signed consent. Medication authorization forms are available in the school office.

All medications are kept in a locked cabinet in the school office.

Over-the-counter medication will only be administered to students that have doctors orders, signed consents and parents have signed a medical authorization stating that such medication can be given. Medication will be administered by the school’s licensed administration staff.

Parent should schedule their student’s general doctor and dental appointments around school hours.

HEALTH REGULATIONS

Health Regulations for schools require:

  • If the student has had a FEVER of 100° degrees or more, the student should stay at home for 24 hours AFTER their temperature returns to normal.
  • If the student has VOMITED or had DIARRHEA, the student should stay home until they have been free of it for 24 hours.
  • If the student has a RASH that may be disease related, or you do not know the cause, check with your family physician before sending the student back to school.
  • If the student has anything contagious (STREP,LICE,PINK EYE,SCABIES,IMPETIGO, CHICKEN POX, RINGWORM, etc) please call the school office and report the illness; these illnesses must be reported promptly!

When you keep your child home because of illness, please call the school office before school begins to confirm the absence of the child and report the illness. The voicemail line is accessible 24 hours a day.

HOMEWORK

The demonstrated fact is that homework ranks only behind ability in determining the level of achievement a student experiences in school. Our school practice is as follows: homework is designed as additional needed preparation in a given subject area which is assigned, suggested, or approved by the student’s teacher. This is to be completed within a specified time limit and normally is of such length and of such a nature that the student may complete part or all of the assignment during class time. Reasonable purposes for homework include the following: completing unfinished class work, making up work due to absences, reinforcing previously taught skills, providing enrichment opportunities, preparing assignments that require outside materials, previously taught skills, providing enrichment opportunities, preparing assignments that require outside materials, and completing of projects that by their design will take greater than one day to complete. All written homework will be checked or reviewed. Also, considered in the term grade will be class work, tests, and other assignments.

While homework assignments are the major responsibility of the student, it is very important for the parents to check to see that homework is being done. Homework should supplement, complement, and reinforce classroom teaching and learning. The faculty requests that parents give homework assistance to their children when necessary.

Individual teachers will discuss homework policies with students. Guidelines for homework within particular subjects will be distributed. Parents who have questions about homework procedures should contact the teacher.

HOMEWORK POLICY

  1. Homework is an opportunity and process for learning. It is never just something to do. Many courses build upon each other which make homework critical. Homework is necessary to complete the curriculum requirements within the school year. More importantly, homework is an effective way to reinforce important concepts.
  2. Teachers are cognizant of the time requirements of homework. By communicating with each other and allowing some time in class to complete assignments, teachers are able to maintain a proper homework balance. Students are held accountable for time given in class for work.
  3. Most tests are scheduled several days in advance and proper time is allotted for test study. Extracurricular activities are not an excuse for late homework or postponement of tests.
  4. Teachers are available to talk to parents regarding questions and concerns about specific situations. Please contact your child’s teacher through the school office should such a need arise or for other concerns.

LOVEWORKS BOARD

The Board is responsible for the establishment of all school operating policies. The LoveWorks Board completes multiple training courses with a certified instructor throughout their service period.

LUNCH

The objective of the cafeteria program is to provide a healthy breakfast and lunch to the students attending LoveWorks. Students are allowed to buy a lunch at school or bring a lunch from home to be eaten in the lunchroom.

The lunch period is a definite part of the school program, and provisions should be made for all students to eat in the lunchroom. The lunchroom should be a place where everyone can enjoy his/her meal in a pleasant surrounding. Some simple rules of courteous behavior should be observed.

Leave the table and its surroundings clean for the next lunch group. Students are to report to the lunchroom staff any trash, etc., which has been left by the previous lunch Group.

  • Remain seated until its time for you to put away your tray. Return to the table promptly. Do not visit around the lunchroom.

o Return used dishes and trays to the place designated by the lunchroom manager.

o Food, drinks, etc., must not be taken out of the lunchroom.

o Do not use make-up or groom hair in the lunchroom.

Assistants are assigned to lunchroom supervision. All students are expected to cooperate with the lunchroom supervisors. Students are not allowed to leave or enter the lunchroom without a pass. Remember loud talking, throwing food or other forms of poor behavior will not be tolerated.

Applications for free or reduced priced lunches will be given to each student at the beginning of the school year or when the student is registered later in the year. Parents will be notified by letter whether or not the application is approved. A separate application must be filled out for each student each year. The application must be completely filled out. Free and/or reduced lunches are non-transferable.

For food service costs, please see lunchroom staff or Administration. All bills must be paid in advance. LoveWorks students are permitted to bring their lunches from home in a standard lunchbox. Please be sure to write your child’s name on his/her lunchbox with a permanent marker.

LUNCH TIME BEHAVIOR

  1. Have respect for others.
  2. Inside voices only.
  3. Never toss or throw food or other objects.
  4. Clean your area.
  5. Wait to be dismissed.

NO-SMOKING RULE

LoveWorks does not permit smoking on the school premises. Students who smoke will face disciplinary action. In addition, police officers issue citations (fines) to students possessing tobacco products.

OTHER TRANSPORTATION

Students are to wait in the building until a parent or carpool driver picks them up at the end of the school day. Students may not leave the school, either during the day or after school, with any person other than a parent, guardian, or other carpool driver, unless the parent has given written permission in advance to the school office.

Parents who are providing transportation need to be sure that students arrive on time and are picked up promptly. Students who walk or ride bicycles must have a written note from their parents on file in the school office indicating approval.

OUTSIDE ACTIVITIES

Participation in outside activities during school hours such as (private music lessons, sports activities, etc.) is not encouraged. In the event that this occurs the student will receive an unexcused absence. Please schedule these activities outside school hours.

PARENTAL BEHAVIOR POLICY

Parental Behavioral Rules

LoveWorks will not tolerate any parent causing conflict or tension between students, staff or other parents. Violation of this rule could result in parents being asked not to return to LW or legal action may be taken.

Behavior that falls under this rule consists of Fights, Cursing, Lying, Gossiping, and Disrespectful manners.

ELECTRONICS

The disruptive use of pagers, cell phones, and iPods can result in suspension from school. If students find it necessary to have cell phones in school, we ask that they remain turned off during the school day. All electronic devises are to be kept in student’s lockers and turned off during the day. LWA is not responsible for lost or stolen items. All confiscated electronics will be returned at the end of the school year.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT

Since the training of a child is the primary responsibility of parents, school involvement is very important. Some of the ways to exercise that involvement are:

  • Attend Parent/Teacher Fellowships
  • Be in contact with your child’s teacher(s) often
  • Attend as many school functions as possible. This usually means a lot to the student, even if they don’t verbalize it
  • Support the school in its policies and decisions

Many activities depend on volunteer help in order to succeed. Willing helpers can aid in the classroom, field trips, school store and with fundraising. Without parent involvement it is difficult to run our school.

PODS (Parents of Dynamite Stars)

The Parent/Teacher Fellowship (PTF) consists of all the parent base of LoveWorks. Our goal and aim is to support the teachers and staff and to encourage fellowship among LoveWorks families. All are welcome and encouraged to attend and become involved.

PARTIES

Special arrangements should be made through the teacher before treats are brought from home. Please remember to send appropriate paper products (plates, napkins, cups, silverware, etc.) along with “treat.” Please cut cakes. Please do not send gum for treats.

PROCESS FOR RESOLVING CONCERNS AND CONFLICTS

Parents should first communicate their needs and concerns with the teacher of the student at the classroom level. If the family feels that their concerns have not been adequately met, they may bring their concerns to administration for further resolution with the teacher as an active participant. If the matter is still unresolved, it may be brought before the LoveWorks board for final resolution.

It is our hope that the setting forth of this policy will enable students, families and staff to work together to resolve problems and create a productive method for working peacefully.

REASONABLE FORCE

Reasonable force is defined as any detaining or restraining action deemed necessary by administration to avoid the injury of students in an emergency situation which includes fights. It may also include physical touch in the case of having to move through a group to get to the emergency.

RECESS

All students will be going outside throughout the year unless temperature and/or wind chill fall below 15 degrees. We encourage students to dress appropriately (boots, snow pants, hats, and mittens in the winter), as they will not be excused because of inadequate clothing. Students may be allowed to stay in for recess due to recent illness or other legitimate reasons. However the teacher must receive a letter from the parent stating the reason or a doctor’s note.

ROLLER BLADING LIMITATIONS

LoveWorks bans skateboards, skates, scooters and bikes from school property. If skateboards are found on the property, they will be confiscated.

SEARCH & SEIZURE

The Director or authorized school officials may conduct a search and seizure. Search and seizure applies to school property, school lockers, and the student. This also applies to school sponsored activities…whether on our campus or away from our school campus.

Desks, lockers, and other equipment at LWA belong to the Board. Any school property may be entered and searched by school officials whenever there is reasonable belief that some substance or materials is contained therein which is illegal or harmful to the safety of the student or the student body, or significantly disruptive or dangerous to the overall discipline of the school. Further, school property may be examined by the school officials for other justifiable reasons. In addition, student’s property such as backpacks, handbags, automobiles, etc., may be examined by the school officials whenever there is reasonable belief that some substance or material is contained therein which is illegal or harmful to the safety of students or significantly disruptive to the overall discipline of the school. This search may include the use of police canine units.

Any items which are specifically prohibited by law or by LoveWorks’ policy may be impounded by the school officials. Such prohibited items shall include, but are not limited to the following: knives of any size, including pocket knives; other weapons; tobacco; drugs or drug paraphernalia of any sort; alcoholic beverages; pornographic material; property that is alleged to belong to another party.

Personal lockers are provided for storage of books, notebooks, and lunches. They are property of the school and leased to students. They are not intended to be strong boxes for money or other valuable items. Lockers are provided for student convenience, and the student, not the school, is responsible for items lost or stolen from them. No contraband of any kind is to be stored in a locker. Administrators will search lockers at any time that they have reasonable cause to believe something harmful to students is inside the locker. Police canine units will also be used to search if necessary. Students must keep their lockers locked, not inform other students of their combinations, not make marks on locks to indicate the combination, and not allow other people to use their lockers. Broken or inoperative lockers are to be reported to the office. Lockers must be cleaned out prior to the last day of the academic school year.

To change lockers, approval must be secured from the office. Changing of lockers without permission is a disciplinary violation, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken. Students may not share lockers.

No stickers, decals, etc., may be placed on the exterior or interior of lockers. Only items that are easily removable without damage to the lockers may be placed on the inside of the locker. No items with adhesive or glue backing should be placed in lockers. Students will be responsible for paying for any damage they do to their lockers or to any other locker. The Locker maintenance fee is $15 per locker. Students 5th – 8th MUST have a combination lock only.

Note: The administration reserves the right to search lockers at any time based on reasonable cause.

SEXUAL HARASSMENT

Sexual harassment is any unwanted or unwelcomed verbal, written, or physical conduct of a sexual nature that interferes with a student’s right to learn, study, work, achieve, or participate in a comfortable and supportive atmosphere. Sexual harassment may include, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Leering at someone else’s body
  • Making comments, gestures, or jokes of a sexual nature
  • Manipulating clothing in a sexual manner
  • Displaying sexual pictures or objects
  • Spreading sexual rumors or commenting about sexual behavior
  • Repeatedly pressuring for dates or unwanted sexual activity
  • Touching, grabbing, and /or pinching
  • Teasing and/or bullying in sexual terms
  • Asking for sexual favors in exchange for grades, promotions, or participation in school activities
  • Inflicting physical sexual assault or abuse

Students are legally protected against sexual harassment by Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, a federal law prohibiting discrimination in schools on the basis of sex.

LoveWorks Academy will not tolerate any form of sexual harassment by staff or students.

Sexual harassment committed by students of either sex against students or staff of the opposite or same sex constitutes inappropriate conduct. All complaints will be investigated by the principal or his/her designee. Depending on the nature of the offense, disciplinary action ranging from counseling to suspension or expulsion may be taken consistent with discipline policies approved by the LoveWorks Academy Board.

Students are encouraged to report harassment that they experience or witness. Any school staff member who receives a sexual harassment complaint should report it immediately, orally and in writing, to the principal or designated representative. (If the principal is the alleged perpetrator, the report should be made to the board of directors). Where teachers or other LoveWorks Academy employees are suspected of abuse, the LoveWorks Academy Board will immediately, conduct a thorough investigation that may result in remedial or disciplinary action up to and including the termination of employment and revocation of professional certification.

The principal or staff member should immediately alert the area executive officer and the parents/guardians of the students involved.

In severe cases involving criminal conduct, such as the infliction of physical sexual assault or abuse, the police and Child Protective Services are to be notified immediately.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

A list of all student supplies as well as age appropriate supplies will be given out at the beginning of the school year. The supplies should be purchased and handed in by the given date.

The supply list is not optional. It is required and considered a rule for all parents to do their part to ensure that students have all materials needed. If a parent refuses to purchase necessary supplies, their child will be dismissed permanently. LoveWorks requires and asks for very little financial support outside of minimal fundraisers; therefore there will be no exceptions to this rule.

SCHOOL VISITATION

Visitors interested in observing our school are welcome. All visitors are required to first check-in at the front office and receive a visitor’s pass. Student visitors will not be permitted on campus without prior permission of Administration. Student visitors interested in attending LoveWorks must be accompanied by an adult.

Classroom visitation is available at all times for parents of LoveWorks students. We do ask, however, that the parents check in the front office. College students in education programs or teachers from other schools must schedule classroom observations in advance.

Alumni are not permitted to visit the school unless they have special permission from Administration. All visitors must wear a visitor’s badge and return it to the office upon completion of the visit.

SPECIAL EDUCATION

Each year a number of LoveWorks students may be found to have special needs such as: learning disabilities, behavior issues, speech, hearing or other physical disabilities. We will develop and implement programs to meet the needs of your child.

State and federal laws provide for special education programs to meet the needs of students with learning, speech, hearing and/or physical disabilities. These programs are developed and administered through the public school system.

SPORTS FUNCTIONS AND SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Students are expected to comply with all the school guidelines of appropriate behavior while attending school sponsored activities on school property or any other location.

STUDY HALL

  1. Bring all study materials to study hall. If a student does not have homework to do, he or she must have a book to read.
  2. Remain in assigned seat and work individually unless he/she has permission from their homeroom teacher to work with someone else.
  3. Communication will not be tolerated (including talking, note passing, body/facial expressions and gestures). Study hall is a time to study.
  4. A restroom pass will be given to only one student at a time.
  5. The study hall supervisor may grant permission to work cooperatively.

TARDINESS

If a student arrives after the start of school, they are considered tardy. Students are required to get a pass to go to class.

Initial Arrival-Excused

1. A student’s tardiness will be excused if he or she arrives to school late as a result of illness, a medical appointment or if there is a family emergency.

Initial Arrival-Unexcused

2. A student’s tardiness will be unexcused if he or she arrives late to school for any other reason than illness, medical appointments, or a family emergency. Unexcused tardiness becomes part of a student’s permanent record.

3. Five unexcused tardies throughout the school year will result in a letter or notification sent to the parents.

4. Ten unexcused tardies throughout the school year will result in a scheduled conference with parents.

Class Arrival-Excused

A student’s tardiness will be excused only if he or she arrives in class with a valid notification from his or her parent.

TELEPHONE

Students are not allowed to use building phones except in an emergency or with staff permission. Students will not be permitted to go home with another student unless prior arrangements have been made with administrative staff. Students will not be called out of class to receive a phone call except in the case of an emergency.

TRANSCRIPTS

Transcripts will be released only upon completion of all obligations to LoveWorks.

TRESPASSING

The campus is private property owned by LoveWorks Academy. The campus is closed 30 minutes after the last school day or after any scheduled school event, supervised rehearsal or activity. Any person on campus at a time when the campus is closed is trespassing. Any person not presently a student or faculty member who comes on to the campus during school hours must enter the building at the main office door, sign in on the visitor’s log, and get a visitor’s pass. A person without a valid visitor’s pass is considered to be trespassing.

VOLUNTEER POLICY

All LoveWorks parents are expected to volunteer their time to support the school. The goal is “cheerful giving” of one’s self to school needs.

WEAPONS

State law prohibits weapons (including any kind of knife) on school grounds. Possession of a weapon on school grounds requires immediate out-of-school suspension, referral to the police, and a possible recommendation for expulsion. Possession of simulated weapons will result in disciplinary action.

WITHDRAWAL FROM SCHOOL

If it is necessary to withdraw from school for any reason, the parent or legal guardian must contact the Director, Teacher or Administration prior to the day of withdrawal. A withdrawal form must be obtained from the office, all textbooks returned to the appropriate teacher, library books returned to the library, and any fines, debts, or charges cleared.

*NOTE: We reserve the right to change school rules and policy at any given time
