Trelinshelia Harrison, Director

My Name is Trelinshelia Harrison and I am the Director of LoveWorks Academy for Visual and Performing Arts for the 2010-2011 school year.

The visionary of LoveWorks Academy, Patrice Dorrall, is what I call a gift finder. She has a wonderful way of finding these gifts in people and pulling them out (I like to call it stretching). She is a woman who believes that your gifts will truly make room for you. I worked with Ms. Dorrall for many years. I served on the planning board for LW as well as working at a private school that she owned for many years. Before working with her, she saw something in me that prompted her to ask me to join the team at Pressing Toward the Mark Christian Academy. Like her, she felt that I just had a gift for education. She was correct, because education is in my heart! I am proud to be here to carry on her vision.

I am the oldest of three children. I was born and raised right here in South Minneapolis. I graduated from Roosevelt High School (GO TEDDIES)! I attended Southwest State University, The College of St. Catherine and Metro State with a focus in Early Childhood Education. What’s really interesting is that I’ve worked for over 24 years at many places but every job had a focus on children (talk about passion). I work hard at treating people right, being fair and just being a plain good person and standing up for what is right.

When I am not at school, I am singing at my church, with Darnell Davis and The Remnant, scrap booking or hanging out with my family.

I have been married for 16 years and have 3 amazing daughters, Aleah, Alexis, Kaia and one bonus daughter Patience. They are my biggest accomplishment. I ask myself, “What do you want for your children?” I want them happy, healthy, loved and successful. I chose LoveWorks for them. I want the same things for all children that I want for my children. I believe in LoveWorks, and I wish the same confidence level for you!

I have no doubt that our students can learn, and that there does not have to be an achievement gap. We CAN be a national example for other schools. I do my job because I have seen students come through the doors of LoveWorks, and the love and safety helped to change their whole outlook on life. We have made gains, but I am excited that we have a team of folks who understand that FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION! I do what I do because I believe in the success of every student. I am committed and dedicated to this school.

There’s a lot of excitement ahead of you, including new teachers to meet, new books to read, new friends to meet and new skills to master, and we look forward to you sharing in these exciting times. As a parent myself, I know how fast time goes by. One year, your child’s in 1st grade, and seemingly in the blink of an eye, they’re in middle school or high school (in my case) for that matter.

In closing, I encourage you to fully embrace the moment and urge you to take the time from your busy schedule to become familiar with our school, as well as create a homework-friendly environment at home that will allow your children to excel.

Jena Byron, Academic Coordinator

My name is Jena Byron, and I have been working at Loveworks since February of 2006. (The first year Loveworks was open.) I started teaching middle school for two years and then moved to third grade for one year. This is my third year as Academic Coordinator. I love being on this side of the school, because I still get to see the students all of the time to help them throughout their day, but I also get to help out our wonderful staff as well. I will do my best each and every day to help our students keep improving while they dedicate their time here at Loveworks.

I am married to my wonderful husband Jeffrey, and we have a son Miles who was born June 3, 2010. We love family time that includes going running together, boat riding and watching the Twins! It has been a great joy to go through the experience of expanding our family with the Loveworks family.

I enjoy coming to work each morning, and I look forward to all of the smiles that I see come through the doors. I anticipate many more wonderful things will continue to happen at Loveworks.
